Would it be possible to have a Stormsword or something similar, which would make sense ICly? Basically a Stormhammer with a different model.

Swords aren't meant to be thrown!
Which is the entire premise of a stormhammer, to be thrown and all.

Well, not just swords. I was thinking axes. Also, by a stretch, things like
this, which could be thrown similar to a boomerang Stormhammer.

A storm axe would be viable, maybe a storm dagger... But yeah, it's meant to be a thrown weapon. That, and it's a strong tradition for it to be a hammer.
EDIT: Also, you don't actually throw your hammer when you use it. You swing it, and an electrical copy of the weapon shoots forward.
"Every gun..."
"...Makes its own tune."

I've read conflicting things about Storm Hammers. One sentence has said that all Wildhammers have them, while another sentence (in the same article) says that only the elite gryphon riders wield them. I imagine this topic is a result of trying to get a hunter to use a Storm weapon (since they can't use maces), and I apologize that I haven't responded yet regarding it.
That said, I haven't seen anything about insinuation regarding other storm weapons...

Nah, I'll just stick with the hammer.

From what I know I believe the storm hammers are ment to also do a stun, you cannot really stun with a axe or a sword, it requires a bigger mass of impact, that would be a reason why there are only maces.
However, I find it unlikely for there to be an storm axe/dagger/what ever, still I believe one can be enchanted with the same effect as the hammers but I find it unlikely to still have the stunning blow.
