The Purpose Of The Clan:
- The Bloodhowl Clan aims to tie strong bonds and gather forces with Orcs who honor the old ways of shamanism and the Horde. They are deeply traditional in their ideology and they draw strength from the tales of past hero's and great battles. They are radically dedicated to their beliefs and they shape their future by consulting the spirits through their shaman. Although deeply idealistic and firm in their honoring of the past the clan strives to create a strong sense of safety and security among their kin.
Their camp adorns secluded ground within the Barrens which separates them from the rest of society, living off the land by preying on the fauna as well as nourishing and harvesting the flora.
The clan aims to be a beacon of the old ways and will provide for those like minded. Ready to defend the lively hood of their kin and the honor of the clan with their lives.
Tradition And Ideology:
- The clan values honor above everything else, that includes their personal standing as well as that of the clan. Those of the Bloodhowl are expected to be willing to lay down their lives for the honor of their kin if faced with such a predicament. They also value the mutual strength of their kin greatly, empathizing the importance of each and every one being able to shoulder their share in labor, both men and women alike.
They place their faith in the animistic influence of their shaman, valuing the connections an Orc of such a stature can tie with the spirits and nature itself. As such they pride themselves in the harmonic coexistence with nature they practice and aims to uphold this balance in everyday life.
In honor of tradition they revere their elders and ancestors, honoring them through praise and respect. They are concerned with survival over artistic achievement and perfectionism, their way of living reflecting this notion thoroughly. Although awed by the wisdom of their elders the clan values valor over cunning, as long as the valor of their kin isn't self-destructive.
In benefit of the bond between its kin the Bloodhowl indulge in several ceremonies to strengthen it further. They have a firm belief in the spiritual power of blood which they consume to tie an animistic bond among themselves, believing that it joins them in might and spirit.
History And Origin:
- The Bloodhowl originated as a fragment from the Wolfkin Clan lead by the war veteran Gralkar Wolfkin. This fragment consists of Gralkar's two younger brothers, Gronn and Grakthar. These two grew up under the stern tutelage of their elder, guided by his hand and cared for under his roof. The three brothers shared a close bond, yet as Gronn and Grakthar grew they would come to experience the malicious side of their elder brother, a trait surely brought forth by his consumption of demon blood during the third war.
Gralkar watched as Gronn and Grakthar grew into men, venturing from Ogrimmar to distant lands where they would hone their skills as warriors.
Having reached manhood the youngest and most idealistic of the brothers had proposed that the three would start their own clan, so that they could form allegiances with like minded. Gralkar had been reluctant at the idea at first, but eventually he had come to accept and put it into practice.
So it was that the Wolfkin Clan was brought forth and founded by the three brothers, Gralkar taking his rightful place as Chieftain due to his superior age and experience. At first the structure and honor generated by the clan was pleasing, yet the mind of the middle brother would soon wander from his duties. Gronn had always found himself uncomfortably drawn to women, and as an orc named Molok, later dubbed Molok Wolfcarer was initiated into the kin he found himself enticed and distracted.
Tempted to take Molok as his mate yet wary of his elders wrath Gronn continued to tend to his duties to the best of his ability. A conflict would soon present itself however as it became evident during a conversation that the youngest brother, Grakthar wanted to take Molok as his mate as well.
Gronn was bitter and angered, reacting by separating himself from his brothers in contemplation. The dispute had likely faded unless Gralkar had demanded to be imparted of what had been said between his brothers in argument. As both refused to answer their elder a regrettable fight ensued. Gralkar had struck the youngest of the three harder than the dispute had called for, injuring him seriously. The sadistic rage of their elder had become evident that day and the two younger brothers both felt abused and dishonored.
Grakthar had voiced his disapproval of Gralkar's actions and claimed that he did not longer wished to follow his elder. Being young and impulsive Gronn followed his younger brother, both of their departure looked upon in shame and betrayal of the Wolfkin.
They wandered the Barrens aimlessly, knowing that they had to tie allegiances with others to ensure their survival. They came upon many Orcs of ideologies different to their own, finding themselves perplexed by the disrespectful lighting the ways of old had been put in and spoken of by others.
In their impulsion their came to the conclusion that they would form their own clan, honoring the teachings of old and supplying a home for those like minded.
In their search they finally came upon Orcs who shared their ideology of honoring the teachings of old. One of which had blue eyes, a trait which was interpreted as an omen of a great future for the group. They sought themselves to a secluded spot of soil in the distant mountains of the Barrens upon which they settled, and so it was that the Bloodhowl clan was created. Gronn being the elder of the brothers reluctantly claimed the title of Chieftain whereas his brother Grakthar would come to claim the title of Warlord.
Now they tend to the livelihood of their kin, longing for great honor and battles to carry their names through eternity.
Ceremonies:
- ▶ Rite of Kinship:
Similar to the old tradition called the Om'Riggor (Rite of adulthood), one of the higher ranking members of the clan (Usually Grakthar the Warlord, or Gronn the Chieftain) takes a number of candidates (ranked Whelps) out for a hunt. The higher ranking member picks a challenging and dangerous prey for the group of candidates to hunt down, upon felling the beast they are to sever it's the head and bring it back to the supervisor. The group then searches itself to the Bloodhowl encampment where a feast is held in the honor of the hunters.
During the feast the Chieftain separates himself from the group to meditate, and returns with a goblet and a bone dirk to test the loyalty of the hunters. In honor of tradition he will slant the dirk over his palm and let his blood fill the cup, before
offering it to each hunter in turn. Upon consuming the blood a spiritual bond is believed to be formed, not only between the whelp and the Chieftain, but with the very unity of the clan. The whelp is thus accepted as kin of the Bloodhowl.
