Hey,
I know it's a stupid question but I still don't properly understand. At least I don't think I do.
Can a priest who only trained in Holy magic also use shadow? How about if somehow they trained in Shadow magic too? Or is it innate, when you become a priest, you get Shadow abilities right off the bat?
Also, can a priest cast Holy and Shadow spells in succession? And what would be the Church of the Holy Light's view on such people?

THe way I recall, you need to be trained to use your abilities. Simply put, just because you learn how to cast smite doesn't mean you suddenly learn Shadow Word: Pain. If you want to use a spell, you have to learn it.
As for casting in succession, you can't cast mind flay and smite at the same time, but you can cast smite -after- mind flay or vice versa.

What Krilari said.
The spells would have to be known. It's not as if they can heal one with the Light or enter another's mind with Shadow without learning the spells. But there's nothing stopping them from utilizing both. There are priests that look to maintain a balance between the two.
But if the priest shuns one side (example: Aendron shuns the Light), doesn't mean they still can't use it. Aendron knows a few spells from his time practicing the Light, though he will avoid using them unless absolutely necessary.
And come to think of it... I don't know too much of the Church of the Holy Light. I... I only play primarily Shadow priests. And Blood Elves. CotHL is a human shtick.

Actually, high elves were members of the CotHL. While many lost their faith in the fall of Silvermoon, many others maintained Er belief and and possibly still members of the church.

The wonderful thing about divine magic is that if you believe you're capable of doing such a thing and believe in it that strongly then you can do it. If you're a shadow user but believe that you can still cast a healing spell, then by all means you can possibly do it.

In theory, a priest could learn all of his possible spells. The limiting factor is generally the culture they grew up in. Most human priests from the Church of holy light would not touch a shadow spell with a 10 mile stick. Take into consideration the culture and expectations of your race when deciding what they can use.

It's fueled by their own personal beliefs. Their will and faith gives them their power. As Cappn said, Church of the Holy Light would frown upon Shadow use. Having someone devout to the church using/learning Shadow wouldn't make much sense at all.
In Aendron's case (I reference him a lot since he's the only priest I play often) he knows healing/resurrection spells. He will only use them in desperation on a select few when his will power would be strong enough to work. A Blood Elf who is entirely devoted to the Shadow such as him and hates the Light can still use it by drawing from the Sunwell much like many Blood Knights do.
