Just a question that popped into my mind while RPing today. Were all 3rd gen Death Knights made equally? Because if so, what actually seperates our current reigning Highlord.
From any one of these guys that were the Lich King's private army of cannon fodder?
Or do they serve him simply because "Oh well, that guy was our commander before, might as well keep on calling him commander right?"

...That's it? Or does being a lore-character give you an automatic boost in power?

But otherwise, would the PC death knights be close to equal in strength? Spell and magic wise, not physical strength.

Well it can be assumed that Lore-characters are more powerful because they're also better trained and better experienced at what they do, as well. All DKs can have the same POTENTIAL for power, but no PC will ever reach the status comparable to a Lore-character.

Well...that wasn't what I meant exactly. I was more wondering if PC death knights would have the same 'power level' so to speak, as each other. Not talking about potential, just...the ammount of power they were made with. Like, would an orc DK have the same Icy Touch as a human DK?

Also he's not quite a 3rd generation Knight. He was created to be the dreadful and powerful commander of those Knights, just like there's a scary lich in Acherus who's a trainer for frost magic, and heroic figures like Thassarian and Koltira and whoever else who are aides to the Highlord. These are big-pauldroned, almost-free-willed Undead commanders who are bossing the lowly Death Knights around in the name of Arthas.

All PC Death Knights have the same skill/spell traits, for balance.
A Tauren DK isn't going to use Scourge Strike better than a Gnomish DK, just because he's much bigger. -BUT-, he does have size and strength advantage, for just swinging the blade itself.

I've seen most, and RP mine this way... Like the talent-tree specializations. I.E. If you're blood spec you're extra vicious and strong. Frost you can do frost-weaving and are more durable. Unholy is like a Necromancer, sorta. Then if you're an Orc you could be physically stronger than say a Blood Elf, who might, in turn be a stronger spell-caster. It's all about checks-and-balances outside of roll fights.
My own Blood Elf DK is a pretty good Unholy caster, but anyone can tell you Shadow Magic does nothing to other Undead.
I RP with other classes with a level playing field. Death Knights seem more powerful because they're more vicious.
In my opinion.
The true test of his choice lies forward.

You can ask these questions about any class.
Do all mages have the same 'power level'? Would an undead priest have the same Mind Flay as a night elf priest?
While DKs were made, the particular style of combat that they employ is still a style that needs to be learned and practiced. The only reason why they start at a level higher than 1 is because they were all presumably rather competent warriors and paladins before getting whacked, so had some solid melee skills to base their new style on.
Have you hugged an orc today?

I think Darion Mograine was resurrected by Kel'thuzad. So, lore character + lore character.
