I have startling news. The spawning area is currently under siege by a massive goblin army. In order to avoid these foul monstrosities, run like hell. I'm serious. Jump on the platforms and head west, there, you will find shelter in the form of a purple building. It is no longer green, as dungeon blocks do not count as houses anymore. And the NPCs, somehow, are dead. Doors mess things up.

Note that there is some lava on the top of the wooden tunnels, however, that is nothing to be afraid of. Just don't break those tunnels and you're golden. While there might seem to be lava in the interior of the tunnels, it is too thinly spread to cause any sort of damage.

The house itself is Blood Moon and Goblin Army proof, no need to worry. The chests found in the tunnels contain fairly useful items, from mushrooms to weapons and materials.

I'd like to note that the Goblin Army was a spontaneous event, nothing to point fingers at. Certainly not at me or at Uth, who were present at the time. %^*& happens.
