As far as our events we've run are concerned... it'll likely be on a case-by-case basis. There are certain ones that I think would be nice to keep our own spin on, and have folks that actually participated and progressed their backstories with. For the most part, anything that doesn't have a lasting effect on the world will probably be kept, as far as history goes. That's what I intend, but of course things are subject to change.
To correct Rensin (and clarify the above), an event like the Grindfest, which is a purely-fun event and not world-changing, would undoubtedly be eligible to be kept in our history. The Wyrmrest Accord events are up in the air, especially considering I'm not sure if that complete storyline (as originally conceived) will actually finish.

What happens to the ingame economy? Are you guys planning on working out the kinks with it so it can be better implemented come the restart?

Rensin Wrote:Whatever you decide is fine, but it has to fit in with the new server lore, which would be akin to the current live. However, we will have some Northrend events, and other fun things.
Anything that has to do with our custom events, such as Gnomer, Gurubashi Grindfest, the Wyrmrest Accord, Sin'Sholai, all that jazz... hasn't happened. It's a light reset, really. Except we allow you to keep your characters and mod them to the current lore.
Bu-bu the Grind-fest was so kewl Q.q>.. No moar boasting rights for Besdle >.>..

Heh, I was wrong on that. Kret said small scale fun events that don't change lore can be kept.

A question! My second WoW folder, which was the one I used for CotH, has been deleted. Could you maybe give me an idea of when the server will be patched up? I would just like to know if it will be soon, so I don't waste my time with downloading all of the patches again.
BTW: Loving the restart stuffz.

--Plet. Well, as I mentioned in the OP, presuming this goes through, it wouldn't happen for... probably a few months. I'd -like- for it to get done with earlier, but there's a lot of work that'd have to be done.
Side-note: No excuse about having to manually patch up a folder, nub! I had to do that somewhere between five and ten times when I was trying to get the dedicated server set up (so I could extract the files necessary to get the server to run). It's not that tedious. So long as you're paying attention and don't let it patch past 3.3.2, you'd be good!

If this happens, I will be forced to go back to the time of the dinosaurs, tame a T-Rex, go forward in time to the year 3000, and become ruler of humanity. Then, I will come back in time to the present. Using the skills I learned I will finally beat Kretol in the local karate tournament.
Pain is an illusion.

If you just copy the entire WoW folder, then down-patch one of them, it's not much of a problem.
You don't even need to re-download all of the patches(which is the only part of the process that actually takes up a lot of time), since they're all stored in the WoW folder from when you downloaded them for your main copy of WoW). All you have to do is click them in the right order, it'll take less than half an hour.

A few questions:
a) Forum statuses remain then? Like Peons, Grunts, etc?
Yes, I am aware that the server and the forum are seperate, but I'm a little intrigued.
b) Will we have to back up our profiles from the wiki/forum BEFORE the restartt, so they aren't destroyed?
c) The wiki, en general. Is the entire character profiles section to be purged
d) Gnomer and Echo events will remain as the server-lore versions, right? These will have occured anyways ofc.
e) Any other ideas for improvements? Just intrigued, still.

For Gnomer and Echo, I say we should keep what we did. If server lore already fits perfectly with Blizzard lore, then there is absolutely NO point in changing it.

Yes, I am aware that the server and the forum are seperate, but I'm a little intrigued. Yes indeed! We won't be going through the same thing as the previous restart, where nearly everyone did get bumped back down.

The character profiles archive will be opened up for all to see (though it'll be read-only), so folks can go through and find their profile (or they can just take it from the wiki).

Not exactly. My idea is to get a template made that people can use on their profiles. Of course, this means people will have to register and actually use the wiki. The idea is for people to Edit the pages for their profiles that they want to keep, and add something at the very top; something like {{keep}}. This would add a little box stating that the profile is intending to be kept (whether or not revision is necessary). After a period of time, I would imagine that any profile that doesn't have that template at the top would probably be deleted.

Depending on exactly what happens, it may be ideal to integrate what happens on retail with what happened here. I know for the Echo Isles, it would be feasible. For Gnomer... mostly due to attrition and an overall decline of interest, there may be more of a focus with what happens on retail, with perhaps the tragic losses of the GSF prompting the rest of the gnomes to jump to action.

I can't help but feel a pain for Rigley (and the other GMs who created similar masterpieces), who has spent so much time furbishing the Catacombs for us evil RPers. The reset sounds positive aside from that, I just would really hate to see all that good work get wiped out.
Do you think you could start formulating a list on what you would keep and what you would scrap in a server reset?
