I'm in a pickle. While writing for the next exciting chapter of Svenn and Asgrend shennanigans (!!) I came across a snag that might just cause a clash with current established lore. Vrykul... are they an ancient race... are they all scourge? Did they ever used to be living? The timeframe I'm looking at is pretty much several months after the rebuilding of silvermoon. For that matter, what was the area of Northrend like? Was it scourge infested? Was a scourge sighting a rarety? Is there even ANYTHING on this kind of information, free to interpretation?
In the meantime, I guess I'll have to shelf it for some other ideas.

The Vrykul did not awaken until the Alliance landed in Daggercap Bay and setup camp, and for the most part are all Scourge affiliated due to King Ymiron's pact with Arthas as the "Death-God".
There are probably some very rare cases of self-affiliated Vrykul villages but again, for the most part; All scourge-affiliated. They didn't awaken till Alliance landed and then they fell asleep like.. probably a few thousand years ago, as they shipped off the first humans to the main-land and then went into a deep hibernated state.
That's the jist of it atleast, I may be wrong. It's been a while since I quested in Howling Fjord and read the Wiki page.

So basically all that's running around in the fjord would be animals? That's odd.

Animals and Scourge, really. Arthas wasn't just taking a nap between WC3 and WotLK.
But no Vrykul, or else we'd have seen them in the WC3 campaigns. (Or just an over-sight by Blizzard, once again.)

The share of the blame goes to blizzard for this one. Their writing has gone down the toilet since post BC. Gotta rewrite some entries now...

I would assume that the most running around the Fjord before the Vrykul had awoken would be animals, some scourge scouts, maybe some trolls, Iron Dwarves, and furbolgs. Then there are the Tuskarr and murlocs on the coastline. And maybe the occasional Storm Giant.
