The Byronic hero is something of a subtrope of the anti-hero, but worth a good mention because they're often fundamentally different than the modern traditional anti-hero.

Namely in that Byronic heroes are even bigger *beep!*holes and tend to not to do the good thing and are heroes because the story focuses on them.

I'd suggest redirecting your dislikes towards old school shining armor heroism by reading up on two more great TVtropes pages, Lawful Stupid and Stupid Good.

Chaotic Stupid should also prove useful for those who don't want to play a bad anti-hero.
