Every single version of 3.3.5 to 3.3.5a for Mac that I've found has been broken. Multiple versions from multiple sites, all with the same problem. What is it about this patch that makes Macs hate it, and is there any way to get it for realz? Without it I won't be able to play CotH until the very distant future.

Have you tried looking on here for the patches? I know there are several threads on the topic.

Sadly, all the threads I've checked (a fair amount of the ones available) are about Windows, or just a guide on patching without providing the actual patch. Or the site doesn't have it. Or all of the above.
