Bumping.
Just putting it out there to read through this post, and in particular this part:
Quote:Don't get hung up on the small stuff, like including basic lore, such as the fall of whatever, the Lich King, and the creation of your faction. That's something everyone should -know-, not necessarily have in their profile. If the profile is -lacking- then by all -means- suggest including it, but don't force it down the throat of a player who has their bases covered, and a nice neat profile that makes sense.

It's nice to hear this coming from GMs. I was a bit unnerved when I first posted here because it seemed like everyone has something to say about your profile.
Critique is great and welcomed, but some people come off as straight up Lore Nazis.

Totally agree. I got scared off the server for a year when I first tried to join before I finally came back. I've been happy since, but we could be scaring off the good player's over small things.

Bashing on major lore mistakes is needed. Sorry, guys. You can't have been born in Theramore, or have been living as an Orc for countless generations in Kalimdor. No harm intended.

I remeber awhile back a profile said. He was a tauren born in Draenor with the orcs. O_O I don't know if it was this server, but yeah. Sometimes you have to.

Bashing is not necessary. correcting, explaining where, how and why they went wrong, then helping them correct the issues is. Don't comment on profiles if you only want to say negative things, and don't want to help them make it positive, cause otherwise your not trying t help, your just lording over people like your better than them for knowing the lore more comprehensively.
My two cent's anyway, and this isn't directed at anyone in particular.

Bashing =/= constructive posting. Instead of going,
"Hey, you stupid noob you can't have been born as a Tauren on Draenor."
Say
"Hey there, I noticed that you were born on Draenor as a Tauren, and if you look at the accounts of lore that isn't really possible, it would be wise to change such an issue."
Besides, its the GMs job, not ours. /nod

Hmm... I like the idea, personally. I remember having to message players, because I noticed they were commenting on profiles. It's one to help, but what I remember is. Comment= shoot me all the way back up the list. Adding another 2-3 weeks on me. So yeah, I like this option for future players that wish to have their character approved.

There's a reason we have the workshop sub-forum, if you wish for players to comment on your profile, just post 'em there!
When you think its ready for approval, that's when you move it/post it again on the main forum, for GM's to oversee it. /nod

This should probably be stickied in the General Discussion forums or Character Profiles. Unfortunately only an Admin could do that. If Grakor of Kretol sees this, could you consider making it a sticky? I don't think this is something that should be forgotten. Thanks!

If I comment on a profile, I make it sure it's at the top of the list or at least very high up. If I find a big lore mistake on a profile further down, I PM. I'd prefer this over being bumped up by a GM from the bottom of the list after waiting for a few days or even weeks. It's not fun being bumped by a player, but it's even less so being bumped by a GM, because that means that a GM looked at your profile and you messed up somewhere and will most likely have to wait for a few more days. Had another player who maybe looks at new profiles as soon as they come up commented on this beforehand, it would be avoided. That's my two cents.

It would therefore be wonderful if WIPs would be posted in said Workshop. Why? Cause many people aren't bothered to, and in the end it clogs the main list.

That's where you need to discern between what is a WIP and a flawed profile. Many people won't bother posting in the WIP since that forum, quite honestly, isn't used or paid as much attention as the main forum is and the easiest and quickest way of getting your profile through or getting help correcting the errors is to keep it in the main list.
Regardless, the concern we are trying to address is not wether a topic should be in the Workshop or not. It's regarding the bumping of topics and the general attitude and method when forwarding any kind of criticism.
Keep that in mind. There is always a good way and a bad way of doing things. Bashing is the bad way.

The way I usally try to help is by pming the player first and asking if they want help. I try to help people who are making orc characters because to be quite honest orc history is kinda confusing. Theres an entire generation of orcs who came of age when they were 6. So two orcs born 1 year appart would have a total of 10 years difference in appearance in age. If the player agrees to my help then I send them a time line, I work in their character into the time line so they can have the age they want and it will show them what history their character took part in. That's usually enough to get anyone who made an orc character get approved in a week without me feeling like a jerk for nit picking their profile apart.
