As great and fun as it would be actually playing one, you can't really RP or interact with people at all apart from running around areas where you would otherwise never encounter murlocs while bothering people with gurgles and burps. A character like that would likely be killed pretty fast, and that'd be a shame.

For those who love Tauren - Taukna.
For those who love Trolls - Ice Trolls, Forest Trolls.
For those who love Draenei - Broken
For those who love Orcs (For the Horde!) - Felorcs
For those who love slimy serpents - Naga
For those who love obese stereotypical Italians - Tuskaar.
These, however, can use clothes too just like any other characters I believe. Though some may not show up properly (Eg, pants on a Naga).
None the less, great idea!

A character like that would likely be killed pretty fast, and that'd be a shame. There is an entire chain of quests in the Borean Tundra where your characters interact with a group of Winterfin murlocs. You initially meet with their "king", Mrgl-Mrgl, who is actually a night elf representative from D.E.H.T.A. You learn how to communicate with these murlocs using The King's Empty Conch.
I was amused when I found these quests in Wrath of the Lich King. My draenei warrior, Teca, is a language and cultural enthusiast. Upon arriving on Azeroth, she encountered the native murlocs at Azuremyst Isle and became fascinated with them. In the years that have since passed, she's learned more about them and attempted to build a rapport with them (which I've "demonstrated" in-game as she levels; they're less likely to attack her due to the level disparity). Teca even claims to be able to speak their words and will recite murloc poetry when asked.
The quests reminded me a lot of the roleplay that I had originally done!
I feel selfish in thinking it, but if people were able to play murlocs I would be able to pursue a similar line of roleplay on Conquest of the Horde. Spiffy!

Playing a murloc DOES sound like win.
But there'd have to be many of them to really get any RP.
Azheron's back in business. For reals.

I second this.
Thirded.. But yes, I like the idea so far.

Well. As we said, you'd most likely get one custom character. And you guys would really want it to be a creature that can't talk? Sounds a bit wasteful, IMO.
I understand that you guys are probably joking, heh, but ya know. I gotta say it.

What about satyr? They make more sense than wretched seeing as the wretched were killed in the Sin'Sholai thing.

Furbolg. Period.
EDIT: Scrap that period, because I have a question. Will we be able to play Pandaren like we could in the RPG? I played a pikeman with a few friends a couple times and it was quite some fun. I'd just like to know, since I know there's a model of the Pandaren around -somewhere-.

This is a beautiful idea.
I wouldn't mind playing an elemental or mechanical creature...Hmm...
Time to do researching into all the possible RP twists and turns this could cause!

Personally, I'd like to see some Etherals, as would Dilly for that matter.
While on Dilly's own server, we were screwing around the altering DisplayIDs permanently, and got some interesting results (Though we couldn't get the perma to work. D
There are several player models for other races which allow pre-existing armour to be worn - just see the list of character models in the Model Viewer!
Butyeah, I'd love to see some custom races. Consider this post a "FEL YEEEEEEAAAAAH!"
Jeneal jumps into the water. "HAHAHAHAHA!" She turns into a seal.
