The ruination of Stratholme brought with it the destruction of the old Church, and from its ashes rose a new Church, a Church that had devoted itself to giving up its old ways and traditions. There are those who within the Church, the younger generations especially, who claim that the Church had strayed from the path of the Three Virtues, losing itself into the vice of politics and wading deeply into simony and corruption.
The schism has occurred. The elders have lost touch with the Holy Light, and it is high time that those who seek to pervert and warp the Holy Light be swept away by the faithful. The Inquisition explores a shade of grey between the quintessential concepts of Good and Evil. Delving deeper into the Church of the Holy Light, the very epitome of a benevolent organization, the Inquisition touches upon the rarely considered ramifications that the Third War had on the Church.
We are the Inquisition, and we advocate the old traditions, condemning the contemporary ideologies as heretical and disrespectful to those who had laid down their lives in the name of the Holy Light. We believe that there are individuals within the Church who are corrupt, losing themselves to the vice of political infighting, or indulging in temporal desires born out of avarice and lust. We believe that these individuals who are guilty of the sins of simony, apostasy, blasphemy and corruption must return to the path of orthodoxy - failing that, then it is the duty of all who are faithful to lead them onto the path of redemption. We believe that the Church has forgotten its primary purposes - to evangelize the Holy Light, to defend the Holy Light, and to protect the adherents of the Holy Light. We preach the True Faith, and it falls upon us to uphold the tenets of the Holy Light and reclaim the holy communion.
Our enemies are many. The corrupt we shall purge. The wicked we shall banish. The apostates we shall enlighten. The heretics we shall redeem. The heathens we shall convert. We are the all-seeing eye; our enemies are many, but the Holy Light is all.
Light wills it!

The Inquisition preaches and believes in what they term The True Faith; the most orthodox and fundamentalist interpretation of The Three Virtues and the Holy Light. As the study of the Holy Light was more of a philosophical pursuit than a faith, the destroyed Church in Lordaeron resembled a library instead of a house of worship. Its texts were destroyed along with the Church, many of them burned, most of them buried under thousands of pounds of rubble. What with the wars, settling a new Alliance stronghold and dealing with frequent skirmishes, the remaining scholars and priests have found little time to work on transcribing old information into new books for initiates.
Some self-appointed sages are taking up the mantle of rewriting the pontifications on the Holy Light, but there is no regulation or overseer. There are fresh looks at old ideas, as well as old ideas copied word for word by diligent old priests with perfect memories. As one would expect, sometimes these old scholars clash when someone realizes that the texts are beginning to contradict one another. The result of which was that the Church is splintering into many different subsets to the Holy Light itself, ideological interpretations that differ are diverse throughout the vast hierarchies of the Church.
Thus, the True Faith is less an amalgamation of these diverse interpretations but more the paring down to the bare essentials. It is a fundamentalist movement that advocates the restoration of the Holy Light to a path of unwavering orthodoxy, with the belief that the Holy Light is becoming diluted and its adherents increasingly disenchanted and disillusioned. It argues that the Holy Light is essentially an agatheistic religion for the good of all its adherents, that the Holy Light is not only in us but in all denizens, and that any who forsake the Holy Light makes it weaker as a collective union - which makes Azeroth weaker against the Burning Legion, which makes inactivity, apostasy, heathenism and heresy a religious crime and a crime against all that lives.
The only reaction that can be made against those who would jeopardize the safety of Azeroth and threaten the very survival of all that lives is to enlighten, redeem and bring them onto a path of salvation - by force, if necessary, for is it not a sign of compassion that we have to do hard things to those whom we love? Failing that, then the only explanation is that the enemy of the Light had become too deeply corrupted by the darkness, and we must have the tenacity to excommunicate the fallen and offer him respect by granting him a swift reprieve from his tortured existence - for an existence of denial as an adversary to the Light can only be an existence of pain and wickedness.

Spoiler:
Apostle
An apostle is essentially an officer of The Inquisition - one is expected to be fairly active, capable of pushing forward RP by himself, and able to carry himself with maturity and empathy. He must take into account the controversial and sensitive nature of the Guild, understanding that he must step in when necessary to maintain the policies and reputation of the Guild. It is very much both an IC and OOC rank, having responsibilities and authority in regards to the Guild in both aspects.
Inquisitor
An Inquisitor is a rogue who had pledged himself to the philosophy of The Inquisition in order to achieve our objectives. He must not reveal his identity normally, as he must keep an eye out for apostates, heretics and heathens that infiltrate society to spread their blasphemies and corruptions. He must adorn a mask when representing The Inquisition, in which case he understands that for the greater good of the True Faith, he might have to conduct acts of penance for the redemption of sinners. It is with tenacity that he must conduct himself in all matters, sympathy for those who have fallen into darkness, and respect for those who could one day walk once more in the Light. Inquisitors are capable of channeling the Light to aid them in combat, essentially forming the basis for the more magical arts of the Rogues.
Confessor
A Confessor is a priest who had pledged himself to the philosophy of The Inquisition in order to achieve our objectives. He offers penance and salvation to those who have sinned, and beyond the Apostles and Prophetess, is the only one with the authority to declare the need for penance on a sinner for the sake of repentance. The Confessor is also the only one with the authority beyond the Apostles and Prophetess to proclaim that a sinner has been cleansed and repented, and can be welcomed once more into the Holy Light, if not The Inquisition itself as an Initiate to the True Faith. A Confessor also takes confessions, which are bound under the seal of the confessional - he cannot reveal nor act on what was formally confessed to him -, providing succor and healing when necessary.
Templar
A Templar is a paladin or a warrior who had pledged himself to the philosophy of The Inquisition in order to achieve our objectives. He provides protection to the faithful and defend the adherents of the Holy Light against those that would seek to undermine the faith. A Templar guards the Confessors and Arcanists when they journey beyond or within the Kingdom of Stormwind, and is the champion who stands as a bulwark against the wickedness that assails those of faith. A Templar guards tribunals, offer assistance to official matters of The Inquisition, bind and capture sinners, and carry out the will of the True Faith.
Arcanist
An Arcanist is a mage or a warlock who had pledged himself to the philosophy of The Inquisition in order to achieve our objectives. The True Faith believes that the root of all magic was from the Holy Light, and as such, magic is a tool of the faithful. The Fel, however, is a corruption of the Holy Light's gift on the world, a poison utilized by the demons of the Twisting Nether. Warlocks are individuals who have the tenacity to brave this poison, for to defeat one's enemies, one must know them. As such, Warlocks are viewed with a mixture of sympathy and wariness amongst The Inquisition, and stand a rather high chance of being purged themselves should they misstep or falter - they are barely tolerated, treated more as living martyrs and doomed souls. Arcanists are the judiciaries in charge of the Tribunals of the Inquisition, and the magical fist of the True Faith.
Initiate
An Initiate is a new member of The Inquisition who has yet to prove himself before the True Faith. It is often a temporary position.
