Well, yes and no. Healing potions are powerfully rapid healers, but there are many other types of alchemist creations that could be used in the medical field. Take, for example, the Potion of Curing. If an alchemist could not identify the subject as suffering from a poison, they would not know to administer the potion.

Personally, I have always viewed alchemists as the pharmacists of WoW.

I agree. But I wasn't objecting to their ability to make antidotes or other remedies, I was arguing that the healing effect from something like Resurgent Healing Potion goes along with your argument about rapid healing.

Edited for the grammars.
I just felt like I should bump this, after a really fascinating discussion that just happened in-game regarding medical science in WoW. I'd never considered the implications of the Hayflick Limit with regards to magical healing and immortality, and the notes that were brought up regarding the detrimental effects of healing non-fatal infections or illness on the immune system were great too.

I don't have the expertise to comment on them directly, but I'd love if the folks who were talking about it would discuss it here.
It might be possible that healing not only causes cell reproduction, but also extends the telomere tread? After all, telomeres can be produced by telomerase.
On this server, we also point out that revived characters are weakened from the trauma of death. Same with magically regrown limbs- they're still greatly weaker than the original and take time to heal and may never be entirely well, just like damage in the real world.
That's the entire basis for the DK physical therapist I'm rolling.
