Yup. Elves have their own kinds of runes. I doubt it would mean Flamestrike was an evil one. Basically, elven runes are good. In Warcraft 2, the orcs twisted the elven runes energy to empower the Ogres into Ogre Magi. So I guess the elven runes have powers like that.

Taken from the D20 2nd edition WoWRPG, it's explained there (via the description and the abilities granted) that they are NOT dead. BUT, they have undead-like qualities due to their heavy exposure to unholy energies. These effects include: Reacting to light as if it were shadow (damaged by holy stuff, healed by unholy stuff), also immune to death effects and death magic, but otherwise, he is a living being (if he was alive before he became a DK).
It's also a requirement of the class that they had once been a paladin. Blizz seems to have tossed that the hell out the window though, letting any short, stumpy, hunched, long eared, tusked, and horned thing become one. Which totally seems to defy everything told of the class (But you know good ol' blizz, they don't care about lore..Just care about that $$ = give it to every race to keep the player base happy.)
On the subject of vampiric runeblades, it doesn't mention them being unable to have them, and is actually a death knight feature. It does't have an adverse effect on death knights, according to the aforementioned resource.
Onto the generation thing: Second continues when the third begins. Hehe. The 'third' are the Dks with freewill (thus greater power, because they are no longer suppressed and subjugated by the lich kings will.)
To press on! The meat wagon and piles of bodies thing would logically be used for all manner of things: Corpse dust (for ghouls on the go), fresh bodies to make ghouls then and there, abomination materials, and bodies for extra dks.
Furthermore, one the 'good' or 'evil' subject...according to the WoWRPG, the ones in the scourge are evil (duh) but...the ones with free will, would (obviously), be able to choose themselves. This third generation is no longer forced to be anything. They hate the lich king because of his deceit and betrayal, and (had) pledged to defeat him. Thus the Knights of the Ebon blade. Those guys ALLIED with the Argent Crusade (Paladins) to form the Ashen Verdict which eventually were the ones that made it possible to wear saronite without it fuckin' ya up, and also destroyed the lich king.
